1 Introduction
Using the line simulator for queries
In this topic, we review how to use the line simulator for crew member inquiries.
We estimate that this will take 4 minutes to complete.
The Line Simulator
allows you to simulate various scenarios with crew member's
schedules. You can use the tool to validate the questions that
crew members may have about their awarded pairings.
■ Scenarios where this may arise are questions around holidays, pre-awarded absences (training, vacation, leave, etc.), or pairings that were not awarded to crew members.
2 Detailed Explanation
Beginning on the Line Simulator tab, select the category to which the crew member in question belongs.
Click
the Category dropdown
button.
For this example, let's work with Las Vegas 319 captains.
Click
the LAS-319-CA list
item.
Click
the Employee Number input
field.
Enter 401398 into
the Employee Number field.
Next, copy over the crew member's current schedule.
Click
the Copy Line button.
Click
the Add button.
Dark text indicates the current bid period. Lighter text in parenthesis indicates historical bid periods.
Let's try to add a pairing to this crew member's schedule to discover if it works within the current schedule.
Click
the Pairing Number input
field.
Now, enter the pairing number you want to check against the schedule for employee 401398.
Enter L3013 into
the Pairing Number field.
Typically, the position and date fields populate with the appropriate information. If you want to choose another date, use this dropdown.
Click
the Save button.
Now, check to see if this addition to the schedule is valid.
Click
the Validate button.
Because this addition overlaps with the crew member activity "35", from January 31 through February 6, the new addition is invalid.
Click
the OK button.
Let's now delete this addition. To do so, we must first hide the Add Pairing pane.
Click
the Hide button.
With the line highlighted, select Delete.
Click
the Delete button.
Let's now modify an existing pre-assigned activity by extending activity "35" by one day.
Click
the Line Identifier 35 row.
Click
the Edit button.
Change the activity end date from the 6th to the 7th of February.
Click
the End Date > Day dropdown
button.
Click
the 7 list
item.
Click
the Save button.
The new date is reflected in the selected bid. Now, validate the change to ensure it works.
Click
the Validate button.
The simulator lets you know that the line is valid.
Click
the OK button.
If you need to check a crew member's acclimation, do so by clicking Acclimation, which provides a detailed report.
Click
the Acclimation button.
Click
the Close button.
