Creating a run template

Introduction

Creating a run template

In this topic, we review how to create and save a run template.

We estimate that this will take 7 minutes to complete.

Detailed Explanation

For this example, let's review how to create a pairing/reserve run template.

HINT

New customers must create at least one run template prior to launching a run. Existing setups typically already have one or more templates ready from previous uses.

Start from the Run Manager > Scheduler tab.

Interaction 1 Click the Add button.

Interaction 1 Click the Run Type dropdown button.

Select which type of template you want to save. In this example, let's choose a concurrent run type template for our pairing/reserve run. Depending on your configuration, you may see Concurrent, Consecutive, or Training in the Run Type dropdown.

Interaction 1 Click the Concurrent list item.

Interaction 1 Click the Template Name input field.

Give the template a name. This can be any name of your choosing.

For this example, enter the name Test Template.

Interaction 1 Type Test Template into the Template Name Field.

Interaction 1 Click the Credit Windows > Normal > Low > Hours > Up spin button.

Let's create our credit windows that are applicable to this run. for this example we will use a normal credit window of 70-85 with a threshold of 75. These numbers are an example. Your values will differ depending upon the solution you want to achieve.

HINT

There is a spin up and a spin down button for hours and for minutes i.e., four buttons per input field.

You can change the values either by using the spin button arrows to increase or decrease the value in the field as we just did, or you can alter the field values directly. Spin buttons increment or decrement  by a value of 1, but for this example we have removed the extra clicks to arrive at the total more quickly.

Interaction 1 Double-click the Credit Windows > Normal > High > Hours input field.

HINT

These input fields are split into two parts, the first for hours and the second for minutes.

Interaction 1 Enter 85 into the Credit Windows >Normal > High > Hours field.

Interaction 1 Double-click the Credit Windows > Normal > Threshold > Hours input field.

Interaction 1 Enter 75 into the Credit Windows > Normal > Threshold > Hours field.

Interaction 2 Double-click the Credit Windows > Min Credit > High > Hours input field.

Some values can be pre-populated with default settings. If you are happy with them, they can be left as is.

In this example we create a minimum credit value of 65, maximum 75 and threshold of 70. Since the first value is what we want, we needn't change it.

Interaction 1 Enter 75 into the Credit Windows > Min Credit > High > Hours field.

Interaction 1 Double-click the Credit Windows > Min Credit > Threshold > Hours input field.

Interaction 1 Enter 70 into the Credit Windows > Min Credit > Threshold > Hours field.

Interaction 1 Double-click the Credit Windows > Max Credit > Low > Hours input field.

Interaction 1 Enter 80 into the Credit Windows > Max Credit > Low > Hours field.

Let's set the Max Credit values for 80, 85, and 80. The final value will be set for you.

Interaction 1 Double-click the Credit Windows > Max Credit > High > Hours input field.

Interaction 1 Enter 85 into the Credit Windows > Max Credit > High > Hours field.

Interaction 1 Double-click the Credit Windows > Max Min Credit Honoured input field.

Interaction 1 Double-click the Credit Windows > Max Min Credit Honoured input field.

Let's now set the upper limit for the number of crew members that will be awarded into the minimum credit window. In this example, let's allow only 10 crew members into the minimum credit window.

Interaction 1 Enter 10 into the Credit Windows > Max Min Credit Honoured field.

You must scroll this pane to work with all the information. You can use your mouse wheel, click the scroll bar, or use the keyboard. Let's use the keyboard to move down.

Interaction 1 Press the PgDn key on your keyboard.

Interaction 1 Click the Use Unstacking check box.

For this example, we will not use the pairing unstacking functionality, and so will deselect this check box. If you have questions about this functionality, refer to the help file for more detailed information.

Interaction 2 Press the PgDn key on your keyboard.

Let's also disable reserve unstacking for this example.

Interaction 1 Click the Use Unstacking check box.

These are all the changes we need to make for this template.

We can now scroll to the bottom of the page and save the template.

Interaction 2 Press the PgDn key on your keyboard.

Interaction 1 Click the Save button.

SUCCESS

Congratulations! You have successfully created a run template.

Now let's review how to edit an existing template using the one you just created.

Interaction 1 Click the Edit button.

Interaction 2 Press the PgDn key on your keyboard.

For this example, let's enable the pairing and reserve unstacking functionality. We will scroll down to the appropriate section.

Make sure you're using the Unstacking section.

Interaction 1 Click the Use Unstacking check box.

By selecting this option, we enable the pairing unstacking.

HINT

You can find detailed information regarding the stack types and unstacking methods in the Help file.

We've centered the Per Day area in the screen for you. Ensure you've scrolled to this area.

Interaction 1 Click the Max Stack Height > Weekday input field.

This value established our maximum stack heights per day. Stacks indicate how many pairings we are willing to leave uncovered on a given day.

Interaction 1 Enter 5 into the Max Stack Height > Weekday field.

Interaction 1 Click the Max Stack Height > Weekend input field.

Interaction 1 Type 3 into the Max Stack Height > Weekend input field.

Interaction 1 Click the Apply Defaults button.

Click Apply Defaults to make these values the default for Weekdays and Weekends.

Interaction 1 Click the Scheduler scroll bar.

You can also adjust the stack height of any individual day, if needed.

Let's click the scroll bar to advance to the Reserve section.

Now let's enable unstacking for Reserve.

Interaction 1 Click the Use Unstacking check box.

Interaction 1 Click the Min > Weekday input field.

Similar to what we did for pairing unstacking, we will establish the minimum number of reserves needed per day.

Interaction 1 Enter 10 into the Min > Weekday field.

Interaction 1 Click the Min > Weekend input field.

Interaction 1 Enter 12 into the Min > Weekend field.

Interaction 1 Click the Apply RES Defaults button.

Interaction 1 Click the Save button.

Interaction 1 Click the Delete button.

SUCCESS

Congratulations! You have successfully edited a run template.

Next, let's delete the template. Ensure the template you want to delete is highlighted in the list. Since there is only one template in this example, it is already selected.

Confirm your choice to delete the selected template.

Interaction 1 Click the OK button.

There are no run templates listed.

SUCCESS

Congratulations! You have successfully deleted a run template.
