Sample Bid 1
Sample Bid 1 Explanation
In Sample Bid 1, you are asking the N-PBS Scheduler to award you as many pairings as possible with BOS and LAX layovers, as long as they don’t operate on Aug 10 or Aug 11. After that, you want one-day pairings with an early check-in time and check-out time. However, if there are not enough of these one-day pairings available to complete your block, you would rather work a pairing on Aug 10th or 11th (Forget 2, Forget 3) than have late check-out times.
The Forget bid preferences tell the N-PBS Scheduler to forget about having Aug 10th or 11th off, and look for one-day pairings with early check-in times and check-out times that operate on any day, including those dates, followed by two-day pairings with early check-in times and check-out times that operate on any day, including weekends.
If you left out the Forget bid preferences and the N-PBS Scheduler had to start denying bid preferences to complete your block, the lowest priority Avoid Pairings or Prefer Off bid preference would be denied first. In this case, the lowest priority Avoid Pairings bid preference avoids late check-out times. The N-PBS Scheduler would deny bid preference 5, clear the block and start processing each bid preference again, this time trying to award you one-day pairings that don’t operate on weekends and have an early check-in time, but probably have a late check-out time.
Sample Bid 2
Sample Bid 2 Explanation
In Sample Bid 2, you are asking the N-PBS Scheduler for Sept 10th and 11th off. Pairings that operate on Sept 10th or 11th are removed from the available pairing pool. You want as many pairings as possible with BOS and AUS layovers. If your block is not complete, you want all pairings with an early check-in time and check-out time removed from the available pairing pool. Next, you want 1 day pairings as long as they don't operate on Sept 10th or 11th or have an early check-in time and check-out time. If your block is still not complete at line 8, the scheduler forgets line 2 and attempts to award pairings at line 4. This means that pairings that operate on Sept 10th are back in the available pairing pool. If your block is still not complete by line 10, the scheduler forgets bid 3 and re-processes your bid. Pairings that operate on Sept 11th are back in the available pairing pool.
If the N-PBS Scheduler reaches line 10, you are instructing the scheduler that you prefer pairings that operate on Sept 10th or Sept 11th over pairings with an early check-in or check-out time.
