In this topic we review how to build categories and make changes to categories.

Detailed Explanation
The first thing that you need to do when opening the Config > Categories tab is to check that you are working in the correct bid period.
ATTENTION
The most common error that people make is to edit the wrong bid period. It is very important to make sure you are in the correct bid period before you commence work.
In this demonstration we will start by adding Denver (DEN) crew categories.
Click the Add button.
Fill in the Details fields as required.
Click the Base input field.
Enter DEN into the Base field.
The location is the airport code for the domicile.
Click the Location input field.
Enter DEN into the Location field.
The domicile code should match the code used in the pairing file.
Click the Domicile Code input field.
Enter D into the Domicile Code field.
Click the Save button.
DEN has now been added as the base. We now need to create the categories that will apply for this base.
In this scenario, we want to add the Denver A319 crew categories.
Click the Add button.
Click the Base dropdown button.
Click the DEN list item.
Before you save your entries, make sure that these options are correct. They are all showing the pilot options, and so are configured correctly for this scenario.
Click the Save button.
Now let's add the Denver First Officer (FO) categories.
Click the Add button.
Click the Base dropdown button.
Click the DEN list item.
Click the Crew Classification dropdown button.
Click the FO list item.
Click the Save button.
Finally, add the Denver Flight Attendant (FA) category.
Click the Add button.
Click the Base dropdown button.

We need to change these options to the cabin rule set.
Click the Rule Set dropdown button.
Click the FFT-Cabin-Rules list item.
Click the Config Set dropdown button.

Click the FFT-Cabin-Training-Rules list item.
Click the Category dropdown button.
Click the DEN-319-FO list item.
Click the Add button.
Click the Save button.
A parent category is set up to allow the system to process the crew member bids to fly or to avoid another crew member in that parent category.

Let's now show you how to edit the Denver crew base.
Click the DEN list item.
Click the Edit button.
For the purposes of this training demonstration, let's now add in the "Allow Hub Turns" option for the base.
Click the Allow Hub Turns check box.
You can also add co-locations if necessary.
Click the Save button.
Now, in this scenario we are going to remove one of the aircraft types.
Click the 319 list item.
Click the Edit button.
Click the 319 list item.
Click the Remove button.
Click the Save button.
And now, let's show you how to add a position within the Flight Attendant (FA) crew classification.
Click the FA list item.
Click the Edit button.
Click the Name input field.
FB is the name of the position.
Enter FB into the Name field.
Click the Alias input field.

The Alias can be anything useful to help you remember the position name.
Enter Position B into the Alias field.
Click the Add button.
Click the Save button.
Now we are going to edit a category (DEN). In this scenario, we are going to add a parent category for the Denver First Officer role.
Click the DEN list item.

Click the Category dropdown button.
Click the DEN-319-CA list item.
